In a groundbreaking move toward smarter urban transport, Nepal's Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has officially launched the nation’s first AI-powered Vehicle Management System (VMS) for public transport.
The system uses GPS tracking, driver behavior analysis, fuel consumption metrics, and predictive maintenance alerts to enhance the performance and reliability of public buses and micro-vans in the Kathmandu Valley.
Key Features Include:
🚍 Real-time bus tracking for passengers via mobile app
🧠 AI-based alerts for harsh braking, overspeeding, and idle time
🔧 Predictive maintenance scheduling based on sensor data
🌍 Eco-routing to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
Transport Minister Renu Kumari Yadav stated, “This is a huge step toward digital mobility in Nepal. We aim to cover all major routes within 6 months.”
